In order to screen the lactic acid bacteria (LAB) strain, the LAB will need to be cultured in both MRS broth and skimmed milk base before the quantification.
Although the Microbiology course was taken back in my first year, the procedure was more in theory and I had zero hands-on experience in culturing bacteria.
Guided by a senior from the School of Technology Industry on microbial growth, I managed to grow my LAB culture in both MRS broth, skimmed milk broth.
The whole process was indeed challenging yet tedious to maintain the sterility and to prevent cross contamination from any possible sources.
With the rookie skill and techniques, I took nearly 5 hours to get everything done. (From autoclave to culture and incubation
). Somehow, the seniors over there were nice and friendly to support me mentally and equip me with the basic knowledge required.
Gonna think of a gift for them after the lab work as a token of appreciation. :)
